1. Columbia Shipmanagement signs agreement with Oceanly. Columbia Shipmanagement has agreed to install Oceanly Performance solution on board of its ships. “Oceanly is a perfect fit for the services that Columbia wants to provide to its customers. The software will allow our technical managers to have a very intimate control of all technical aspects of our managed vessels, while at the same time ensuring complete compliance on all the emission and reporting regulations” says Mark O’Neil, Columbia Group CEO, who was visiting Norshipping and passed by Oceanly’s stand to seal the deal with the company Managing Director, Giampiero Soncini. “We especially appreciate that Performance is an open system, where our own Data analysis team will be able to add or modify any algorithm, even add equipment and easily connect it to the data flow coming from the Navigation and Automation systems.” https://cyprusshippingnews.com/2023/06/22/csm-signs-agreement-with-oceanly/
2. NORDEN acts on asset trading opportunity by ordering dry cargo newbuildings. NORDEN has recently placed a newbuilding order for six dry cargo vessels from Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering , a joint venture between COSCO Shipping and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, for delivery in the next two to three years. 3. Maritime Speakers Bureau wins Diversity and Inclusion accolade at the 2023 Crew Welfare Awards. The International Maritime Organization and the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association proudly announced that their joint project, the Maritime Speakers Bureau, has won The Crew Welfare Diversity & Inclusion Award. It was presented during the virtual Crew Welfare Week conference on June 20 and recognized the Maritime Speakers’ Bureau’s ground-breaking work in the maritime sector. Container shipping divide: Cargo rates weaken, ship rents ‘robust’ Everyone knew the container shipping boom would end — it was a one-off spike driven by a pandemic and government stimulus, not a permanent change in fundamentals. But no one knew how container shipping markets would play out after the boom.The consensus soon after the market peaked was that consumer demand would sink after stimulus was withdrawn and the U.S. would enter a recession. 5. Big 3 Korean shipbuilders see orders worth 136 Trillion Won. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Hanwha Ocean, three major Korean shipbuilders, have accumulated orders worth over 130 trillion won. 6. DP World to start expansion of Indonesian container terminal. Dubai-based terminal operator DP World is set to begin management and a major expansion of Indonesia’s Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT). DP World said that it finalised an agreement with the Indonesia Investment Authority and Indonesian state-run port operator Pelindo. 8. U.S. Coast Guard Declares Titan Loss a ‘Major Marine Casualty’ The U.S. Coast Guard has declared the loss of the Titan submersible a major marine casualty and will lead a formal investigation into the incident, the National Transportation Safety Board said Friday.The investigation will be joined by the NTSB. 9. Carrix to Expand North American Terminal Footprint. Carrix, a leading marine terminal operator based in Seattle, Washington, has announced plans to expand its North American terminal footprint with the purchase Ceres Terminals. 10. Baltic index nears one-month peak on capesize bounce. The Baltic Exchange’s main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, hit a more than four-week high on Thursday, propelled by a 15% jump in the capesize segment. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 78 points, or 6.9%, at 1,216 — its highest since May 24.
