INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Event: Proposed Industrial Action, Nigeria
Date: 8 April 2021
Location: APM Terminals, Nigeria
Description: The management of AMP Terminals and the leaders of Maritime Workers of Nigeria, (MWUN) are holding talks to avoid industrial action from Thursday, 8 April, over the replacement
of Nigerian workers with expatriates. Leaders of MWUN last week instructed members to shut down operations of AMP Terminals unless Nigerian workers were recalled. This follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum to AMP Terminals to recall the local workers.
UPDATE 1: MWUN have shut down the APM Terminals in Apapa, Lagos, with workers holding placards demanding why Nigerians are losing out on jobs to foreigners. According to one report, the NPA’s electronic
truck call-up system has also been suspended. This will likely directly impact and delay merchant vessel cargo operations at the terminals.
