Militant Threat / Nigeria 01-210919

THREAT AGAINST EDO STATE GOVERNMENT

Event: Militant threat

Date and Time: 19 September 2019

Location: Edo State, Nigeria

Description: A militant group calling themselves “NDF” have threatened to “declare total war on Edo State government” if their demands were not met by Governor
Godwin Obaseki. The threats were issued by a group spokesperson called “Captain” Osama Osama, and demands are as follows:

  1. Creation of 5 development centres in the 5 Ijaw kingdoms in Edo State.
  2. Creation of a Riverine Development Agency.
  3. Governor of Edo to give the 5 Ijaw monarchs in the kingdom official positions or “staff of office”.
  4. Appoint Ijaw indigenes as commissioners.
  5. Improvement of roads between communities and the uplands.
  6. Clearance of rivers from water hyacinths to allow fishing and commercial activities.

“NDF” is the acronym of a militant group called the
Niger Delta Force that was active about 10 years ago in the Niger Delta region. However it is unlikely that this new group has any affiliation with the members of that long-disbanded group.

ARC will update if any further info is received.
