THREAT AGAINST OIL COMPANIES

Description: The militant group,
The Niger Delta Volunteers, have issued a 14 day ultimatum to Universal Energy Limited in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, threatening to start an “attack that will aim to destroy all flow-stations, the company’s major pipeline that runs through to Ibeno terminal,
as well as other company facilities and offices” if it fails to meet the group’s demands.
The demands are:

500 post-secondary scholarships to members of the host communities

60 post-graduate scholarships at any Nigerian university to members of the host communities

Provision of infrastructural development

Micro-credit schemes
-
60% of the company’s total workforce to be drawn from host communities

Appointment of a indigene of Unyenge community to the position of director in the company
-
60% of total contracts/supplies to be given to contractors and suppliers from host communities
-
Provision of functional health and education facilities in the host communities.
