INCREASED THREAT TO SHIPPING

 

Event: Report of increased threat to shipping 

 

Date: 7 June 2021

 

Description: MDAT-GoG have released an advisory stating that there is an increased threat to shipping in the defined as follows:

  • 05°00’N, 000°00’E (approx. 40nm S of Tema, Ghana)
  • 05°00’N, 005°00’E (approx. 30nm S of Escravos, Nigeria)
  • 02°30’N, 005°00’E (approx. 165nm SW or Bonny, Nigeria)
  • 02°30’N, 000°00’E (approx. 190nm S of Tema, Ghana)

 

ARC Comment: This advisory has been released following recent attacks across the area, including in Ghana, Benin and Nigerian EEZs as well as in international waters outside the EEZs
of Benin and Nigeria. It should be noted that whilst vessels should be extremely vigilant in this area,
attacks can still occur outside the above defined area as well.
