1. IMO sets remote meeting plan for September-December 2020
IMO has issued the calendar of meetings for September-December 2020, setting dates for remote sessions of the IMO Council and Committees. The first scheduled meeting is set to be a simultaneous, remote extraordinary sessions of all Committees (expected to be held 16-18 September), to address procedural matters. This follows decisions of the IMO Council’s thirty second extraordinary session, which adopted interim guidance to facilitate remote sessions of the IMO Council during the COVID-19 pandemic and invited the Committees to consider utilising the same guidance.

2. The Mission to Seafarers extend nominations for Singapore Seafarers’ Awards to recognise shipping’s key workers
Leading international seafarer welfare charity, The Mission to Seafarers, has extended nominations for its annual Seafarers’ Awards, hosted in Singapore, until 30th September. 4. MAERSK tanker stuck off Malta with 27 migrants on board
Product tanker MAERSK ETIENNE was ordered to “rescue” illegal migrants on Aug 4, while under way in Gulf of Gabes, Med, SW of Malta, being en route from Genoa Italy to Port of La Skhira, Tunisia. Not exactly clear what organization ordered the ship to pick up 27 “distressed” migrants, whether it was MRCC Malta, or some other body, or maybe NGOs are already powerful enough to order cargo ships

5. Cochin Shipyard Apr-Jun Profit Down 65 Per Cent To Rs.42.65 Cr

6. North Carolina Ports Posts 267pc Rise In Reefers In Fiscal Year 2020
THE North Carolina State Ports Authority posted a four per cent year-on-year increase in reefer volumes, reported the American Journal of Transportation Additionally, the Port of Wilmington recorded 36 per cent year-over-year growth for general cargo operations, moving a total of 2.8 million tons of bulk and breakbulk cargo in FY20.

7. Anxious Mauritians Use Hair To Stem Japanese Ship’s Oil Spill
Mauritians are making floating booms of human hair and leaves in a round-the-clock scramble to mop up oil leaking from a grounded Japanese ship onto their pristine Indian Ocean beaches. The MV Wakashio, owned by the Nagashiki Shipping Company and operated by Mitsui OSK Line, began oozing fuel into turquoise sea waters last week after hitting a reef off the island.

9. Feeder boxship slams into pier at Manila port
According to the initial investigation report by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the ship ran into the pier after it suffered an engine malfunction, leaving it unable to turn. 10. Pacific Drilling drillship awarded 10-well contract by Murphy
The drillship was awarded a new contract for 10 firm wells, with five options, in the US Gulf of Mexico commencing in the second quarter of 2021. The firm contract, which is at a rate of $180,000 per day, is expected to take around 450 days.
