1. Brittany Ferries ferry fire, Bay of Biscay
Ferry PONT AVEN of Brittany Ferries alerted MRCC Etel France at 0300 UTC Apr 29, reporting fire in engine room, 77 nm south of Pointe de Penmarch, Finistere, in Bay of Biscay. Ferry with 766 passengers and 142 crew is en route from Plymouth UK to Santander Spain. Helicopter and SAR ship ABEILLE BOURBON were deployed to assist troubled ferry. 2. Bulk carrier aground, Yellow sea
Bulk carrier reported aground on approaches to Chinese port in Yellow sea, after straying off fairway, at around 1300 UTC Apr 28. 3. Vietnamese Fisheries ship hit Indonesian Corvette, goes viral – VIDEO
Video of Vietnamese Fisheries Control ship KN-213 hitting Indonesian Navy corvette KRI TJIPTADI 381 is becoming viral in social nets. Date and location of incident are unknown. Video was published on Apr 28. 6. Diamond Offshore gets long-term work for drillship pair from Woodside
Houston-headquartered offshore driller Diamond Offshore has been awarded a pair of contracts by Woodside for drillships Ocean BlackRhino and Ocean BlackHawk. 7. NYK Posts Red Ink, Changes Its Chairman
Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) closed the fiscal year 2018 with a net loss of JPY 44.5 billion (USD 398.3 million). 8. Maersk Launches Digital Ocean Customs Clearance Platform
A.P. Moller – Maersk announced Monday that it has started offering digital Ocean Customs Clearance to its customers, becoming the first carrier in the container shipping industry to do so.
