1. Chevron Mediterranean awards deep water Leviathan field project to Corinth Pipeworks. Cenergy Holdings announces that Corinth Pipeworks, its steel pipes segment, was awarded a new project from Chevron Mediterranean Limited. 2. Gibraltar Port responds to oil spill incident in the Bay. The Captain of the Port has suspended operations at the Gibraltar Port this morning following an oil spill incident in the bay.The Gibraltar Port Authority has initiated its oil spill contingency plan in conjunction with the Department of Environment and response operations are currently underway. 3. China’s weak Purchasing Managers’ Index means good news for commodities, for now. Bad news for China’s economy appears to spell good news for commodities, with prices of copper and iron ore gaining on hopes for new stimulus measures after yet another weak indicator. 4. Hanwha Ocean wins $259.9 mln LNG tanker contract from Asian client. South Korean major shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean, formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, has won its first LNG tanker contract worth 332.2 billion won ($259.9 million) after the company went through a rebranding in April 2023. In April 2023, South Korea’s Hanwha Group, one of the country’s largest defense contractors, received the green light from the country’s Fair Trade Commission to proceed with the acquisition of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). 5. Asia Fuel Oil-HSFO jumps on strong bids, but headwinds loom. Asia’s cash differential for high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) jumped sharply on Tuesday as strong bids emerged, though headwinds loomed as supply loadings did not appear to have tightened much for August. 6. Ukrainian sea drone hits sanctioned Russian tanker off Crimea. Russian product tanker Sig has been damaged in a Ukrainian sea drone attack in the Kerch Strait near the bridge that connects the Russian mainland with the Crimean peninsula. 7. Concordia Maritime left with one ship following latest sales. 8. Iran Navy Readies Drones And Missiles As US Marines Prepare To Board Oil Tankers. Iran has equipped its Revolutionary Guards’ navy with drones and 1,000-km (600-mile) range missiles, Iranian news agencies reported on Saturday, as the U.S. offers to put guards on commercial ships going through the Gulf’s Strait of Hormuz. 9. Connection Points in Shipping Industry. With the growing concern on emission from ships while berthed in ports, shore power is facilitated by various ports to ships while berthed in ports and such facility requires standardization for connection points. To facilitate shore power supply to ships while in Indian ports, the Directorate General of Shipping has issued ‘Standard Operating Procedures’ for supply of shore power to ships with power demand up to 150 KW. 10. Maersk warns of slower demand for container shipping. Shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk warned on Friday of a steeper decline in global demand for shipping containers by sea this year, prompted by muted economic growth and customers reducing inventories.The company, one of the world’s biggest container shippers with a market share of around 17%, said it expects container volumes to fall by as much as 4%.
