Which of the following crewing strategies do you operate for your top four officers?
Fluid (top 4 senior officers randomly assigned to a vessel).
Stable (the same top 4 senior officers returning to the same vessel).
Stable pool (the same top 4 senior officers returning to the same fleet of vessels but not necessarily the same vessel).
Mix (a mix of strategies – fluid and stable for example – please state).

What mentoring scheme or company strategy does your vessel/ company operate for seafarers?

 The Effective Crew Project, led by Solent University, examines the benefits and challenges associated with the implementation of either a stable or a fluid crewing strategy on board merchant vessels. This three year project started in April 2017 and is sponsored by the Lloyds Register Foundation and the TK Foundation.

 The Mentoring Seafarers Project, led by Solent University recognises the important role that mentoring can play in developing people’s skills, enhancing their welfare and improving safety. As such, the project has been established to explore the range and remit of various mentoring schemes being used within shipping companies internationally. The project will help to raise awareness to sustainable mentoring initiatives and additionally encourage best practice to ensure long-term benefits in education and well-being are considered for the seafaring community.
