Description: A tanker sailing out from Lagos and transiting across the Benin EEZ has been reported as attacked by pirates. IMB have advised that all crew are in citadel. A Nigerian Navy
vessel is responding but is approx. 40nm from the vessel location.
UPDATE 1: It has now been confirmed that this incident was a military operation and not a piracy event. The Nigerian Navy mobilised to interdict a tanker that was suspected of illegal operations.
However, the tanker that was stopped by the Nigerian Navy was the incorrect vessel, and the Navy halted the operation. The tanker continued her voyage and the Nigerian Navy returned to Lagos.
