THREAT AGAINST OIL & GAS INSTALLATIONS
Event: Militant threats
Date and Time: 14th November 2018
Location: Akwa Ibom, Nigeria
Description: A militant group called the “Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators” have released a statement threatening oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta region, labelling it “Operation
Deliver Akwa Ibom Campaign”.
The threat stems from a claimed lack of investment in the region by oil and gas companies, and the alleged corruption of traditional rulers, community leaders and government officials. The group
called for the Nigerian government to “ensure the withdrawal of the certificates of these criminal traditional rulers”.
In their press release statement on Twitter, the group identified the following companies to leave the region:
-
Oriental Energy Resources
-
Moni-Pulo Ltd
-
Addax Petroleum
-
Mobil Nigeria
-
Total Nigeria
Analysis: The “Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators” has been one of the most vocal militant groups in the Niger Delta region over the last 18 months, issuing various threats against oil and gas
facilities and companies. The group is headed by one John Duku and claims to represent about a dozen different militant groups. However, they are yet to follow through with any action following any threat.
