1. Turkish first aircraft carrier on fire VIDEO
Fire erupted on board of Turkish first aircraft carrier TCG ANADOLU (L-408), which is under construction in dry dock at Sedef Shipyard, Tuzla, Turkey, late at night Apr 29 or early in the morning Apr 30. Fire said to occur inside ship’s bow compartments. 2. Coaster damaged in collision, Ghent – Terneuzen Canal Update
UPDATE 0730 UTC: KLARA collided with general cargo ship POSIDANA, which was transiting Canal en route from Ghent to UK. POSIDANA was berthed shortly after 0000 UTC Apr 30 at Terneuzen, no information on damages yet. 3. Antarctic supply ship reported two dead crew
Antarctic supply ship VASILIY GOLOVNIN reported on Apr 29 or earlier, that two crew on board died of poisoning, assumedly by methanol alcohol. The ship is on the way to Cape Tow, ETA May 4, after Antarctic voyage, she delivered supplies and replacement researchers teams to Indian Antarctic scientific bases Bharati and Maitri. One of deceased seamen is an AB, another one is turner. Their bodies are to be transported to Russia from Cape Town. 8. Westgarth replaces El-Mokadem as CEO of V.Group
Less than two years after he was appointed CEO, V.Group has announced that Ian El-Mokadem is leaving the company. El-Mokadem was brought in at V.Group in 2017 to replace Clive Richardson, who stepped down after eight years in charge of the company. 9. UK Coastguard Tests Drones for Coastal Search and Rescue
The Essex Police, the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) are launching a year-long trial to test the use of drones in search and rescue applications. The trial, which kicks off today, will provide HM Coastguard’s rescue teams with more aerial search assets.
