1. Seaspan orders pair of 24,000 teu boxships
Seaspan Corporation has announced that it has entered into an agreement with a major shipyard for the construction of two 24,000 teu containerships. 2. RightShip debuts new Safety Score
“The Safety Score ensures there are minimum standards that all vessels must meet, as well as clear actions to take to improve a vessel’s score,” RightShip explained in a release. “This creates a level playing field for all vessels and provides a clearer pathway for improvement at all levels of the Safety Score.”

3. Norway’s Crown Prince meets seafarers to discuss pandemic impact
Norway’s royal family has traditionally been keenly involved in and supportive of Norway’s maritime activities. The Crown Prince is no exception, although this was for sure the first time such a meeting was held all digital – and with a Captain taking part live from the middle of the North Atlantic.

4. Green financings concluded for six large container ships on order for Hapag Lloyd
Hapag-Lloyd is breaking new ground in financing by concluding two debut transactions according to the Green Loan Principles of the Loan Market Association (LMA). This has also been verified by an independent expert in the form of a secondary party opinion of the DNV GL. Both transactions are associated with the financing of six ultra-large 23,500 TEU container ships, which were ordered in December 2020.

5. Chemikalien Seetransport (CST) and Dr. Peters Group found a joint venture for ship management, CST/DS Shipmanagement GmbH
The Hamburg-based shipping company Chemikalien Seetransport (CST) and the Dortmund-based investment manager Dr. Peters Group (DPG) establish a joint venture with immediate effect. The company will operate as a further maritime service provider and will be called CST/DS Shipmanagement GmbH. The ship management activities of the DPG subsidiaries DS Tankers and DS Schiffahrt are largely absorbed in the joint venture. The fleet is to be expanded further, especially in the tanker segment.

7. Vietnam port container volumes up 8.5% in 2020, expansion underway
Growth was primarily driven by substantial terminals in Lach Huyen, in central Vietnam, and Cai Mep in the South province of Vung Tau, close to Ho Chi Minh City. 8. Philly Shipyard Secures More ‘Grey Hull’ Repair Work
Philly Shipyard has been awarded a contract for the repair of the Military Sealift Command roll-on/roll-off ship USNS Charlton (T-AKR-314), marking the third government repair contract since the shipyard stopped doing commercial newbuildings in 2019. 9. Baltic Index Dips To Over 1-Month Trough As Capesizes Weigh
The Baltic Exchange’s main sea freightindex dipped to its lowest in more than a month on Monday, aslosses in the capesize segment outweighed gains in panamax andsupramax vessel rates. The Baltic dry index, which tracks rates forcapesize,panamax and supramax vessels ferrying dry bulk commodities, wasdown 16 points, or 1. 2% to 1,317, its lowest since Dec. 17,2020.

10. Essar Shipping Third Quarter Net Loss Widens To Rs 182 Crore
Essar Shipping on Monday said its consolidated net loss widened to Rs 181.88 crore in the third quarter ended December 2020.
The company had reported a loss of Rs 95.29 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago, it said in a regulatory filing. Its total income from operations in the December 2020 quarter declined to Rs 103.02 crore, against Rs 387.62 crore in the year-ago period.
