Exmar LPG back at Hyundai Mipo for more gas carriers

Exmar LPG has bolstered its midsize gas carrier orderbook with two more vessels at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea.

The joint venture between gas shipowners Exmar of Belgium and Stonepeak’s Seapeak has splashed about $80.5m on each 46,000 cu m ship delivering in October and December 2026.

Exmar LPG already has four similar units booked at Hyundai Mipo, two of which will be the first-ever oceangoing vessels to run on dual-fuel ammonia engines once delivered in early 2026. All four vessels were originally ordered to operate on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel.

Brokers at Clarksons list the newbuilds, which take the JVs orderbook to 10 ships, as LPG-fuelled. The ammonia dual-fuel duo firmed up last year came at $73.4m per unit, however, the $7.1m price difference suggests the latest pair would also be able to operate on ammonia or LPG.
