Kitack Lim and Petra Wilkinson honoured in a special ceremony celebrating contributions to diversity in the maritime sector The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association UK held a special ceremony at the International Maritime Organization headquarters on Friday, 6 October. The occasion served as the official platform to present Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the IMO, with his WISTA UK Man of the Year award. 2. Port of València moderates the downward trend of export freight rates Export freights from the Port of València contain their fall, registering a decrease of 2.08%, the most moderate in the last year. This is reflected in the València Containerised Freight Index – which measures the trend and evolution of the freight rates of the Valencian precinct – and which in September stands at 1,186.74 points – remaining at similar levels to February 2020. On this World Mental Health day Mental Health support solutions says it’s time maritime ‘stops assuming’ and ‘starts asking’ when it comes to seafarer wellbeing MHSS – Mental Health Support Solutions, set up to provide support services exclusively to the maritime sector offering psychological consultations for seafarers needing support for themselves or their crew, has launched a new initiative called ‘Stop Assuming. 6. Koreans tipped to take over Philly Shipyard Hanwha Ocean, the Korean yard formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, is being tipped as making a bid for Philly Shipyard. 7. Trafigura readies green hydrogen supplies at European ports Commodities giant Trafigura Group has bought out H2 Energy Europe with plans to ramp hydrogen production at strategic places across the continent including a Danish port. 8. Additional Titan Sub Debris Recovered from North Atlantic The U.S. Coast Guard has recovered additional parts of the Titan submersible from the North Atlantic Ocean as part of its investigation into the accident. Some of the evidence collected includes what is presumed to be additional human remains. 10. Baltic index snaps 3-day winning streak as capesize rates dip The Baltic Exchange’s main sea freight index fell on Tuesday, snapping a three-session-long winning streak, pressured by lower rates in the capesize vessel segment.
