1. ClassNK opens new survey office in Paranagua Brazil. ClassNK has opened a new exclusive survey office in Paranagua, Brazil with operations beginning 1 September 2023. Paranagua, located in southern Brazil, ranks among the premier port cities in the country and has recently been expanding its port facilities. 2. MABUX Bunker prices expected to rise moderately next week. During the Week 35, the MABUX global bunker indices showed a slight upward movement. The 380 HSFO index saw a nominal increase of 0.48 USD, rising from 563.19 USD/MT the previous week to 563.67 USD/MT. The VLSFO index experienced a more significant rise of 6.77 USD, moving from 661.63 USD/MT to 668.40 USD/MT. The MGO index exhibited a substantial surge of 18.65 USD, jumping from 968.98 USD/MT to 988.63 USD/MT. 3. IUMI publishes “Best practice and recommendations for the safe carriage of electric vehicles. 5. Jamaica’s first floating dock arrives. German Ship Repair Jamaica Limited , a private joint venture of German, Turkish and Jamaican investors, has welcomed its first floating dock to Jamaica. The 215 meter-long Panamax-size dock was towed across the Atlantic by the deep-sea tug “Titan” from its previous home port in Bremerhaven. 6. CO2 transport fleet to ship over 90m tonnes annually by 2030: Rystad. The transportation of carbon dioxide is taking to the seas as emitters look for flexible ways to move captured carbon to offshore storage projects, with a fleet of 55 carriers required by 2030. 7. Vietnamese in for panamaxes. 8. NOAA Identifies Seven Nations for Illegal Fishing Activities in 2023 Report to Congress. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has identified seven nations and entities for their illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in its 2023 report congress. 10. IMO initiatives promoted during Global Environment Facility meeting. IMO-led projects supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) were highlighted during a side-event co-hosted by the three organizations at the GEF’s Seventh Assembly in Vancouver, Canada (22-26 August). The side-event showcased the successful “GLO-X” partnership model of collaboration which underpins the work of the GloMEEP, GloBallast, GloFouling and GloNoise projects.
