1. Cargo volume dips in July at Port of Long Beach. Trade dipped at the Port of Long Beach in July due to adjusted trade routes, full warehouses and a shift in consumer spending to travel, entertainment and other experiences. Dockworkers and terminal operators moved 578,249 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) last month, down 26.4% from July 2022, which was the Port’s busiest July on record. Imports declined 27.9% to 271,086 TEUs, while exports decreased 17.6% to 90,134 TEUs. 3. Peninsula fixes biofuel deal for K Line. Peninsula, the leading global independent marine energy supplier, has fixed its first Biofuel deal for Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line), one of the largest Japanese marine transportation companies. Peninsula’s Bunker Trading team arranged the delivery of 700 tons of UCOME-based B24 marine biofuel to the “K” Line oceangoing bulk carrier, “M/V Cape Amal”, through local physical supplier, Chimbusco Pan Nation (CPN). 6. Peter Döhle makes cape play. 7. Hapag-Lloyd shows interest in HMM takeover. Today is deadline day for interested parties to submit bids for HMM, South Korea’s flagship carrier.As well as four Korean firms vying for control of the line, formerly known as Hyundai Merchant Marine, one famous foreign company has asked for a sales prospectus. 8. China, the world’s largest LNG buyer, lays out plans to double import capacity. China, which has surpassed Japan as the world’s leading LNG importer, has laid out massive plans for further import terminal construction. It was in 2006 that the People’s Republic opened its first LNG import terminal, in Guangdong in the south of the country. 9. Ship Tracker Reveals Iran’s Surging Oil Exports. Iran’s oil exports are surging this month, swelling global flows at a time when other producers are cutting back, according to a firm that monitors satellite imagery of individual tankers. The boom is awkward for the US, which officially still has sanctions in place that should restrict Iran’s shipments. 10. Supply Chain Hopeful of Container Market Rebound, Survey Shows. A survey of more than 2,500 supply chain professionals has shown that a majority are hopeful of container market rebound.Despite the ongoing market fluctuations, the Container xChange’s Container Price Sentiment Index (xCPSI) witnessed growth in July over June.
