6. Maersk pioneers methanol dual-fuel retrofit. 7. Norvic Shipping becomes a shipowner with LR2 acquisition. New York-headquartered Norvic Shipping has purchased the Pro Alliance, a 105,348 dwt aframax LR2 tanker, from SK Energy in South Korea. The acquisition of the vessel, which has been renamed Norvic Monia, sees Norvic owning its first ship outright, marking a strategic shift from an operator to owner-operator model. 8. Navigator teams with Bumi Armada for UK CO2 shipping venture. New York-listed handysize gas carrier owner and operator Navigator Holding has teamed up with Malaysian floater and vessel contractor Bumi Armada to establish a CO2 shipping and injection solutions joint venture company in the UK. 9. OSG Tanker Tapped to Support Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Defueling Effort. U.S.-flag tanker company Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc. (OSG) has announced that the Military Sealift Command (MSC) has awarded itā€™s tanker Overseas Mykonos a time charter contract to assist with the removal of fuel from the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility in Hawaii. 10. When not all freight rates have ā€œnormalisedā€ The transpacific and Asia-Europe spot markets in container shipping have returned to December 2019, pre-pandemic levels, but other segments and contract markets have not. Transpac spot rates have declined by 80 to 84% in the year to the end of May 2023, as everybody knows. This was a correction from the recent super-inflationary trends seen during the Covid period ā€“ not a real rate collapse.
