1. MOL and JERA signs long term Charter Deal for Newbuilding LNG Carrier. This is the fifth contract, following a time charter contract for four LNG carriers that were signed for JERA. The vessel will be built at the Geoje Shipyard of Hanwha Ocean , and is scheduled for delivery in 2025. It will be managed by MOL and will transport LNG for JERA. 4. Stolt Tankers installs microplastics filter on ship to improve water quality. Stolt Tankers has installed a microplastics filter to its ship Stolt Sagaland as part of its ongoing commitment to achieving its environmental ambitions, including protecting life below water. The installation, which coincides with World Oceans Day (June 8), is an addition to the ship’s existing ballast water treatment system. 8. Tentative Deal Reached in West Coast Labor Negotiations. The Pacific Maritime Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union today have announced a tentative agreement in West Coat labor negotiations, putting an end to more than a year of talks that have had major impacts on the U.S. container trade. The new six-year contract covers workers at all 29 West Coast ports. 9. UK Expects Over 100,000 Jobs in Offshore Wind by 2030. Close to 70,000 new jobs are expected to appear in the UK’s offshore wind industry by 2030, bringing the total to over 100,000. A recent report from the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) found that the fast growing industry would need an average of 10,000 new workers per year to meet goals set for 2030. 10. Baltic index rises to two-week highs on strong demand for capesize vessels. The Baltic Exchange’s main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, gained on Tuesday, helped by higher rates for capesize vessel segment. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 18 point, or 1.7%, at 1,074, its highest level in two weeks.
