3. US Defense Department challenged by sites selected for wind development off Atlantic coast. A map created by the US Defense Department that identifies areas off the country’s Atlantic coast earmarked by the Biden administration for wind-energy development and considered an issue for the armed forces has been made public. According to an article from Bloomberg, four of six potential wind lease areas designated by the Interior Department off the coasts of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware are seen as “highly problematic” for the navy and air force. 4. Cash-rich CMA CGM enters negotiations to buy Bolloré Logistics for $5.5bn. Two of France’s richest people Rodolphe Saadé and Vincent Bollore have entered negotiations that could see cash-rich liner CMA CGM take over the transport and logistics businesses of compatriot conglomerate Bolloré for an enterprise value of €5bn ($5.5bn). 5. ITF Secures Over $1 Million for Abandoned Seafarers in Singapore and Australia. Thirteen Filipino seafarers have returned home after being stranded for over five months aboard the abandoned livestock carrier, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) announced Monday after working to secure their release. 6. Ukraine Agrees with Poland on Grain Transit with Black Sea Deal Under Threat. 7. NORDEN Turns to Carbon Insetting to Help Decarbonize Customers’ Supply Chains. Danish shipping company NORDEN has teamed up with 123Carbon to begin issuing carbon inset tokens to help customers decarbonize their supply chains. 8. West Coast Ports Losing 1 Million TEUs Per Year to Eastward Import Shift. Over one million twenty-foot equivalent import containers per year have shifted away from U.S. West Coast ports, with Gulf Coast ports being the biggest beneficiary, according to a new report by Descartes Systems Group. Descartes analyzed the shift in U.S. import volumes since 2021 when West Coast container ports began experiencing historic congestion amid the pandemic-driven import surge. 9. CMA CGM to change terminal in Poland. 10. Baltic index down for third session as larger vessel rates dip.
