Container ship BARDU was caught in rough weather in East China sea and suffered power loss at night Jul 19, being some 25 nm off Yangtze estuary. At 0530 Beijing time Jul 20 East China sea MRCC sent SAR ship to assist disabled container ship, in the afternoon Jul 20 SAR ship DONG HAI JIU 101 (IMO 9654816) approached BARDU and took her on tow. 2. Cargo ship aground in Little Belt, Denmark
General cargo ship FELIX ran aground off Assens, in Little Belt, Denmark, at around 0500 UTC Jul 20, being en route from Pyarnu Estonia to Kolding Denmark. 3. Iran seized two tankers, finding West too weak to defend itself
Very large crude oil tanker VLCC MESDAR was briefly detained in Strait of Hormuz by Revolutionary Guards of Iran, tanker was seized at around 1530 UTC Jul 19, and released at around 2010 UTC. As of 0330 UTC Jul 20, MESDAR was under way in Persian Gulf, sailing to Ras Tannurah Saudi Arabia, her port of destination. 4. UK-flagged tanker hijacked in Strait of Hormuz? Update hijacked by Iran
It looks like the UK-flagged product tanker STENA IMPERO was forced to move into Iranian waters while transiting Strait of Hormuz en route to Al Jubayl Saudi Arabia, Persian Gulf. 5. Freighter pushed aground by storm, Sri Lanka
General cargo ship SRI LANKA GLORY ran aground or was pushed aground by storm, at Rumassala coast, Galle, Sri lanka, in the morning Jul 18. 6. Icebreaker turned back encountering heavy ice in “ice-free” Arctic
Icebreaking polar research vessel KRONPRINS HAAKON had to turn back, meeting much more heavy ice than expected, on her attempt to reach North Pole. In fact, icebreaker failed even to reach 86 14N latitude, to repeat Nansen’s 1911 record. The ship reached 84 40N latitude on Jul 13, and gave up, unable to move further north in thick ice. “In the middle of July we see few signs of thawing and that spring has come. 7. Tragic accident in South Atlantic on Croatian bulk carrier, 2 dead
Bulk carrier AP DUBRAVA had to interrupt her voyage from San Martin Argentina to Las Palmas Canary Islands, after a tragic accident on board, which occurred on Jul 17. During understood, wielding works, four crewman, including three Croatians and one Ukrainian, were injured, two of them later died. The ship contacted Brazilian authorities and headed for nearest Brazilian port. Brazilian Navy or SAR helicopter with paramedics reached bulk carrier in the morning Jul 18, and medevaced two injured seamen. 9. Oceanic trawler engulfed in flames, 1 crew died, Mauritania
Fire erupted on board of oceanic trawler IVAN GOLUBETS on Jul 19, off Mauritanian northern port Nouadhibou, and spread around, engulfing stern area. one crew reportedly died. Extent of damages unknown but seems to be severe. Trawler was taken on tow by another trawler, probably sister-ship. 10. How vigilante Algeciras citizen saved their city
Vigilante citizen of Algeciras, Spain, alerted Maritime Port Authorities on Jul 17, reporting “excessive smoke emissions” from a ship in Algeciras bay – it was just a cloud of smoke emitted by engine of container ship MAERSK SEMBAWANG, entering Algeciras. Concerned citizen were joined by even more concerned “environmentalists” in requesting from authorities to do something, and save Algeciras from annihilation.
