AGM 13-14.10.2014 to run alongside ship management conference – BOOK A DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR
…………………
InterManager is gathering ship and shore staff together to take part in this year’s fund-raising 24 Peaks Challenge, organised by Seafarers UK.
Secretary General Captain Kuba Szymanski has already put together four teams which include staff from ship manager Member Bernhard Schulte and Associate Members SOFTImpact, Shipserve and ALLMode, Hill Dickinson, but he is keen to encourage more InterManager supporters to take part.
“This will be my sixth time of taking part and I love doing it. It’s a great opportunity to challenge yourself and to build team spirit,” Kuba revealed in the latest edition of InterManager’s electronic newsletter Dispatch.
Taking part in the 24 Peaks Challenge can help bridge the gap between ship and shore staff he says. “This is a great event. Having teams which combine seafarers and shore staff can help build team spirit and bridge the gap between sea and shore.”
Organised by Seafarers-UK, the 24 Peaks Challenge involves walking up 24 high UK peaks in just 24 hours and takes place on the weekend of July 12-13. To take part your team will need to comprise 5/6 physically fit walkers plus at least one support crew and should raise a minimum donation of £4,000 per team.

INVITATION TO ATTEND: MARITIME LOGISTICS AND ENERGY EVENTS, LIVERPOOL June 9 – 20
InterManager members are invited to attend the official Maritime Logistics and Energy conference called ‘Harnessing the strength of Shipping Innovation’ to be held at the Hilton Hotel, Albert Dock in Liverpool on June 17th. They can sign up on the website(www.maritimelogisticsandenergy.com ) for a discounted rates of £199 per delegate. Top speakers will discuss the role that shipping is playing in the UK and global supply chains. If the members put in the word Intermanager where it says Apply Coupon in the cart here is a screen shot below, it will take the price down to £199.00 then add the VAT.
Also taking place from 2pm on Tuesday June 17 2014, the “Social Media and the Maritime Industry” workshop, organised by Hill Dickinson in conjunction with InterManager, will explore the issues arising from the use of social media, looking at both the good and the bad. The session will consider the advantages of using social media and examine some of the problems and pitfalls which can arise.
Although many of the issues regarding social media and the maritime industry are similar to other industries, there are additional considerations arising from the international nature of our industry with its potential for cultural and religious clashes. Seafarers are often away from their families and friends for long periods of time and have a higher reliance upon social media than other workers.
The first part of the workshop will be chaired by John Hulmes, Chairman of Mersey Maritime, and will be led by a team of informed speakers who have particular knowledge of social media in a business context. Confirmed speakers include:
• Magnus Boyd, partner at international maritime law firm Hill Dickinson and specialist in legal issues arising from misuse of social media
• Anneley Pickles and Sue Henney of KVH Media
• Kuba Szymanski, Secretary General of InterManager
The presentations will be followed by the first public showing of a film specially by Videotel in co-operation with InterManager from regarding the use of Social Media by Seafarers.
There will then be a workshop discussion of the issues arising from the presentations and points raised by attendees, led by a panel consisting of:
Stephen Bond (Videotel);
Magnus Boyd (Hill Dickinson);
Briony Fisher (MTI Network)
Anneley Pickles (KVH Media) and
Captain Kuba Szymanski (InterManager);
This workshop is aimed at all those involved in the maritime industry who have an active interest in the use of social media including HR Managers, PR Managers, Claims Managers etc. Numbers will be strictly limited to ensure the workshop allows informed discussion by attendees who have a genuine interest in the subject.
The workshop is supported by InterManager which will use the workshop as the start of a consultation process with a view to presenting a draft Code of Conduct for seafarers at its AGM later this year.
All attendees of the workshop are invited to attend a drinks reception afterwards, to be held in the Hilton Hotel at 5pm.
The Maritime, Logistics & Energy thematic is organised jointly by Mersey Maritime and Shipping Innovation, organiser of last year’s highly successful London International Shipping Week (LISW).
Best Regards
