A well-studied aspect of CBD is its ability to bind to the cannabinoid CB1 receptor in the central nervous system. This is the same receptor that cbd infused water binds to create highs. While THC activates CB1 signaling, CBD appears to attenuate it. This opposite mechanism is the reason why psychedelic effects are virtually nonexistent with CBD. CBD also binds to other receptors, making it a potentially useful treatment for a range of brain-related diseases.
