Description: ARC has received two reports that a vessel may have been attacked deep offshore in the Gulf of Guinea, possibly in the Equatorial Guinea EEZ. One report stated that SSAS
had been activated, the other stated that owners had not been able to reach the vessel.
If confirmed, this attack is the furthest attack offshore since two suspicious approaches in 2018. Vessels in the area should remain extremely vigilant, especially for any small craft
activity or larger vessels such as fishing trawlers with any small boats around.
UPDATE: Vessel’s latest position as of 0848UTC, 23 October 2020, is 04°38.898’N, 003°28.398’E – approx. 105nm S of Lagos. Vessel was drifting at the time of the AIS update.
UPDATE 2: MDAT-GoG have reported that all crew are safe and successfully reached the citadel when the pirates attacked. Local authorities have been reported as responding to the vessel.
