INCREASED THREAT TO SHIPPING
Event: Report of increased threat to shipping
Date: 24 November 2021
Description: MDAT-GoG have updated that there is an increased threat to shipping of piracy in the following area for the next 48 hours:
- 05°00’N, 005°00’E
- 05°00’N, 007°30’E
- 02°30’N, 007°30’E
- 02°30’N, 005°00’E
UPDATE 1: MDAT-GoG have updated that the threat area has extended further south. The new threat area is as follows:
- 05°00’N, 005°00’E
- 05°00’N, 007°30’E
- 00°00’N, 007°30’E
- 00°00’N, 005°00’E
This extends the threat area from the southern area of the Niger Delta to the island nation of Sao Tome and Principe. Major terminals in this area include Agbami, Egina, Brass, Usan, Okwori and
Bonny offshore. It also includes the majority of the Nigeria-Sao Tome Joint Development Zone.
It is recommended that all vessels in the area remain extremely vigilant, heighten security onboard and, if possible, make use of available additional security services.
