Description: A fishing vessel has been reported as attacked by pirates at approx. 0700hrs, 28 August. It is likely that it is the same pirate group that was involved in the suspicious approach / attempted boarding this morning on a tanker.

Vessels in the area are advised to remain extremely vigilant. If they have successfully taken control of the vessel, is likely that the pirates will sail the fishing vessel westwards towards Nigeria, and there is a risk that they may attempt
attacks on other vessels in the region from the fishing vessel.

UPDATE: MDAT-GoG has reported that the vessel is now “safe” and that the pirates have left the vessel. However, there is no information yet if any crew have been kidnapped and taken from the vessel. All vessels in the area should remain
on high alert – in previous incidents pirates have attacked vessels after a successful kidnap operation on an earlier vessel.
