Threat to Oil and Gas Installations / Nigeria 01-031117

THREAT AGAINST OIL & GAS INSTALLATIONS

Event: Militant threats

Date and Time: 3rd November 2017

Location: Niger Delta, Nigeria

Description: The Niger Delta Avengers have declared the end of their ceasefire in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

Announced through their website and an associated Twitter account, the group have stated that this new campaign would be “brutish, brutal and bloody” and that every all installation would be attacked.

The group also singled out the Total Nigeria FPSO
Egina, and that its movement was being monitored by the group.

The Niger Delta Avengers were responsible for the campaign of attacks on oil and gas infrastructure in 2016 which with globally low oil prices lead to a recession in Nigeria. It is therefore likely that this
latest threat will be followed by attacks.

Targets will be oil and gas infrastructure, including pipelines and stations. As part of the oil and gas industry, there is an associated threat towards personnel, both local and expatriate, working in the
region and the shipping industry.
