Description: A vessel reported that it was approached by a speed boat at 23kts. The vessel changed course and increased her speed. The speed boat continued until it was 5nm away but then
slowed down and stopped. All safe.
ARC Comment: There have been a number of suspicious approaches in the area around Sao Tome and Principe. So far, none have escalated into more serious incidents and are being attributed
to local fishing activity (fishermen protecting their nets and fishing grounds). However, considering the ability of Nigeria-based pirates to operate deep offshore, all vessels should remain extremely vigilant in the area.
