Description: A tanker reported being approached by 2 skiffs who came within 200m of the vessel. Based on AIS reports, tanker was drifting when it was approached, but then turned south
and sailed away.
ARC Comment: The area on the southern edge of the Ghanaian EEZ has seen a number of reports of suspicious activity over the last month. None have yet been confirmed as pirates, however all vessels in the area should exercise vigilance.
It is assessed that Nigeria-based pirates are capable of operating at this distance offshore.
