Description: A bulk carrier reported a suspicious approach whilst sailing towards west Africa, approximately 250nm W of Sao Tome. The vessel carried out evasive manoeuvres to escape the
area.

If confirmed as a piracy incident, this would indicate an increase in geographic scope of pirates. It is a considerable distance from the Niger Delta that would likely require the support
of a mothership. However, this is not yet confirmed as a piracy incident.
