Description: ARC has received a report that a tanker has possibly been attacked whilst sailing south-east from Lagos, in a position approximately 32nm NW of Bonga Terminal. Vessel was
sailing at about 8.5kts and then suddenly slowed and from AIS tracking, carried out evasive manoeuvres. It then continued sailing SE at 8.6kts, but then suddenly slowed again and carried out a sharp turn to port. Vessel is now continuing to sail SE at a speed
of 7.1kts.
It has been stated that it there was no incident, however the vessel’s movements are suspicious.
Vessels in the area should exercise extreme caution – if this was a suspicious approach by a pirate craft, pirates may still be in the area. ARC will continue to monitor the vessel and
update when further info is received.
