REPORTED PIRATE ACTIVITY – ONGOING THREAT TO VESSELS IN AREA

 

Event: Movement of pirate group 

 

Date: 6 June 2021

 

Description: ARC has received reports that a pirate group has moved to the area around
03°00’N, 004°00’E – approximately 200nm S of Lagos and 200nm SW of Bonny up to Nigeria’s EEZ boundary and beyond.

 

ARC Comment: This area is where MDAT-GoG on 31 May 2021 reported a likely increase of piracy threat to shipping. This area has seen attacks previously on vessels entering and exiting
Nigerian EEZ, sometimes on vessels before RV with escort vessels or after release from escort vessel.

 

ARC will update if any further information is received.
