Militant Threat / Nigeria 01-240221

THREAT AGAINST OIL & GAS

Event: Militant threats

Date and Time: 24 February 2021

Location: Niger Delta, Nigeria

Description: A militant group called
The Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters have issued a threat to infrastructure in Lagos, Abuja and oil and gas installations onshore and offshore because of the Nigerian Government’s failure to deliver on the amnesty programme. In a televised statement,
the group stated that “till date, there are no schools, no potable water, no light, no hospital and access roads for our people to enjoy”. The group in particular highlighted the amount of money spent on the Deep Blue maritime security project to an Israeli
company when there are “competent hands with expert knowledge” in Nigeria that are able to manage the project.

Analysis: Over the last few years, several similarly named groups have made statements however none have claimed responsibility for attacks. However, oil and gas installations should increase security on site.
