Description: Gunmen carried out two attacks in Bayelsa state. The first attack at Okoroma resulted in two or three Agip workers (reports vary) and one NSCDC security personnel being killed and the boat driver missing. The second attack
at Ogbokiri-Akassa resulted in 6 oil workers being kidnapped.
ARC Comment: Militant activity is currently high in the Niger Delta, with two Agip facilities attacked in the last week. There is also currently a major oil leak in Nembe LGA which has further raised tensions in the area. Whilst local reports
have described the attackers as “pirates”, there is a possibility that the workers were targeted for connection to the oil industry. The reports also did not refer to any robbery, increasing likelihood that these are deliberate attacks on the oil industry.
