Increased Threat to Shipping / Gulf of Guinea 05-251021

INCREASED THREAT TO SHIPPING

Event: Report of increased threat to shipping

Date: 25 October 2021

Description: MDAT-GoG have updated that there is an increased threat to shipping of piracy between the following area:

  • 05°00’N, 005°00’E
  • 05°00’N, 007°30’E
  • 02°30’N, 007°30’E
  • 02°30’N, 005°00’E

This is following the unsuccessful attack on a containership on the southern edge of the Nigerian EEZ early today. This report likely estimates that the pirates will return northwards
towards the Niger Delta. However, all vessels in the region should remain extremely vigilant in case pirates have instead moved further south or west.

ARC will update if any further information is received.
