INCREASED THREAT TO SHIPPING

 

Event: Report of increased threat to shipping 

 

Date: 17 January 2022

 

Description: MDAT-GoG have updated that there is an increased threat to shipping of piracy in the following area for the next
36-48 hours:

  • 05°00’N, 002°30’W
  • 05°00’N, 000°00’W
  • 02°30’N, 000°00’W
  • 02°30’N, 002°30’W

 

This area is offshore
Takoradi, up to 150nm offshore.
This alert is eastwards of the previous alert issued on 15 January 2022, indicating that the threat is moving towards Nigeria. Therefore all vessels in Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria waters should be made aware.

 

It is recommended that all vessels in the area remain extremely vigilant, heighten security onboard and, if possible, make use of available additional security services.
