Description: Based on local media reports, pirates in a speedboat hijacked a fishing vessel at Tema Anchorage and proceeded towards Togolese waters. Due to lack of fuel onboard, the pirates abandoned
the fishing vessel and took over a nearby tanker, transferring 3 crew from the fishing vessel across as well. The tanker was instructed to sail towards Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The tanker also did not have enough fuel, so the pirates hijacked another fishing
vessel, taking another 2 crew from the tanker as well as the 3 crew from the first fishing vessel. It was then reported that they sailed towards Benin waters before abandoning the second fishing vessel and taking the 5 kidnapped crew in their speedboats and
escaping. The second fishing vessel sent an alert once the pirates had left and the Ghana Navy sailed to their location.

The first fishing vessel had been the target of an attack in Ghanaian waters in 2018 which led to 3 crew members being kidnapped and held for 34 days.
