INCIDENT OVER / ONGOING THREAT TO VESSELS

Location: 9nm WSW of Okwori Terminal, 25nm SW of Bonny Fairway Buoy, Nigeria

 

Position: 03°47.5’N, 006°50.5’E

 

Vessel Details

                Type: Container Ship

                LOA: 228m

                Beam: 37m

                Freeboard: 7m

 

Description: ARC has received a report that a vessel was attacked near Okwori Terminal, Nigeria.

 

Update: The vessel was attacked by pirates and all crew assembled in the citadel. The distress call was received on VHF Ch 16 by several vessels and offshore installations. A Nigerian Navy vessel attended
the vessel and the pirates left. The vessel and crew are safe.

 

The pirates are still believed to be in the area. All shipping should operate at a high level of security awareness.
