THREATS AGAINST OIL & GAS

Event: Militant threats

Date and Time: 27th June 2017

Location: Niger Delta, Nigeria

Description: Two Niger Delta groups have issued threats against oil and gas installations.

27th June 2017. The Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, a militant group, have warned that if any Northern-baked coup attempts go ahead before 1st October 2017, then they will violently
resist the exploitation of the Niger Delta region for oil. Despite this support for the current government of President Buhari and Acting President Osinbajo, the statement finished with the call for all oil workers in the Niger Delta to leave facilities, and
for “the operators of the Bonga oil field, LNG, NNPC, Port Harcourt Refinery and Warri Refinery to stop all forms of operation because our strike and defense team will be coming to hoist our flag of freedom as a people in all critical infrastructures and assets
of the Niger Deltans.”

26th June 2017.  A Niger Delta group called Kombot-Egbema & Gbaramatu Graduates Association has threated to shutdown the operations of Chevron Nigeria over the alleged use of cheap labour. Chevron
have been given 48 hours to promote its members from trainees to permanent staff. Chevron Nigeria responded by saying that there was no agreement to offer permanent jobs to the trainees, and that the threat had been reported to the relevant authorities.
