2. Alternative fuels: the key to lowering shipping emissions. In recent years, disruption to Red Sea shipping routes and global sanctions have forced ships to take longer routes, increasing emissions in the first half of 2024 by six per cent compared to the previous year.Already responsible for around three per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, projections indicate emissions could surge to 130 per cent of their 2008 levels by 2050.3 This has prompted the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to set ambitious targets to significantly reduce emissions by 2030 and even further in 2040, while ultimately aiming for net zero emissions by or around 2050.4

4. Associated British Ports hosts the first industry led Maritime and Transport Careers Day. Associated British Ports welcomed over 200 students to its Ocean Cruise Terminal to introduce them to careers in the maritime and transport sector.
The event brought together Maritime and Transport organisations to showcase career opportunities and apprenticeship programmes. Maritime and Transport Careers Programme  managed the event after identifying a skills gap in the sector. Twenty schools from across the Solent including Portsmouth, Southampton, and the New Forest attended the event.

5. Strategic partnership for HHLA’s further development close to conclusion. Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft  will continue to be majority-owned by the City of Hamburg and will be further developed together with the new major shareholder Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world’s largest container shipping company. Following the approval of the Hamburg parliament and the EU Commission, all closing conditions have now been met with the approval of the Ukrainian merger control authority.

6. CDB Leasing offloads kamsarmax trio at auction. CDB Leasing has been tied to a triple kamsarmax bulker sale through an auction. 
Multiple brokers report the Hong Kong-listed leasing unit of China Development Bank has offloaded the 2015-built CL Rizhao and the 2016-built CL Singapore and CL Tianjing for around $68.5m.

7. Keppel takes control of 13 legacy rigs amid hot offshore market conditions. Singapore conglomerate Keppel has taken control of the 13 legacy rigs held by Rigco Holding at a time of improved conditions in the offshore rig market.Keppel currently holds a 10% equity stake in Rigco, S$139m ($103.8m) in perpetual securities and approximately S$4.3bn ($3.2bn) in vendor notes.
