2. IMO Secretary-General visits Red Sea countries. International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez has completed a series of visits to countries in the Red Sea area, to discuss the current situation and express support for freedom of navigation as well as concern for innocent seafarers, particularly those who remain captive with the MV Galaxy Leader.

3. Maersk opens its largest distribution centre in the Philippines, anchoring customer supply chain in crucial transport corridor. A. P. Moller – Maersk, through Maersk Contract Logistics in the Philippines, inaugurated its largest distribution centre in the country to date, the 10-hectare facility in Calamba, Laguna. His Excellency Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Honorable Cristina A. Roque, Department of Trade and Industry Secretary were the guests of honour during the inauguration. Dubbed Maersk Optimus Distribution Center, the facility is Maersk’s flagship warehouse in the Philippines.

4. Stena Line marks significant milestones in build of NewMax ships, Stena Futura and Stena Connecta. Stena Line has reached another milestone in the build of its NewMax ships – launching Stena Futura into the water and laying the keel of the second ship, to be named Stena Connecta.
Stena held a joint ‘launch’ and ‘keel-laying’ ceremony at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Weihai, celebrating the release of Stena Futura into the water for the first time, and the laying of the keel for Stena Connecta, which marks the beginning of the build.

5. CHIMBUSCO secures its First LNG refueling service in Europe. A few days ago, China Marine Bunker , which recently ranked third in the “Top Ten Global Bunkering Enterprises” for 2023 with a bunkering scale of 22.2 million tons at the 7th International Petroleum and Gas Enterprises Conference , made its appearance at the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium. The company supplied LNG fuel to the LNG dual-fuel car carrier “Peony Leader” docked at the terminal. This marked the first time that CHIMBUSCO completed an LNG bunkering operation in Europe, signaling the official expansion of its green energy services to overseas markets.

6. Port of Riga introduces digital access system for freight. A new digital access and pass system will be in force throughout the Port of Riga from 1 November. From now on, both visitors and freight vehicles will enter the Port of Riga by making an appointment electronically and submitting and checking documents digitally instead of using a paper version.

7. Cadeler seals UK offshore wind deal. Copenhagen-headquartered offshore wind vessels player Cadeler has inked a firm deal with ScottishPower Renewables to transport and install wind turbine generators and foundations for the East Anglia Two project off the coast of the UK.The BW Group and Scorpio-backed owner and operator said the contract is worth between €360m ($392m) and €382m ($416m), with work set to start in 2027, utilising one of the company’s newbuild A-class units together with an O-class vessel from Cadeler’s existing fleet.

9. U.S. Sanctions Fail to Stop Chinese Power Plant, Delivery Salvages Next Stage of Russian Arctic LNG Plant. Russia has taken a major step towards commissioning the second production line of the country’s flagship liquefied natural gas project, Arctic LNG 2. Despite ongoing U.S. sanctions to curtail the flow of material from Chinese yards, the first sections of a 650 MW power plant arrived in the Russian Arctic over the weekend.

10. Guyana and Suriname Emerge as Promising LNG Suppliers, Wood Mackenzie Says. Guyana and Suriname are poised to become significant players in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, according to a recent report by Wood Mackenzie.
The report, titled “Can Guyana and Suriname LNG compete against new global supply?”, suggests that these South American nations could supply up to 12 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) of LNG by the early 2030s.
