2. APPEC LNG buyers flag US supply risks after export pause. Major buyers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) flagged risks of purchasing cargoes from the United States following the decision by President Joe Biden’s administration to pause export permits of the superchilled fuel to non-Free Trade Agreement countries.
Officials from Taiwan’s CPC Corp and Germany-based SEFE, which trades LNG cargoes and sells in Asia, stressed the importance of reliability of supply while responding to a question on the impact of the U.S. export pause on Asian markets.

4. Chapman School of Seamanship leverages Yamaha Maintenance Certification Program to help boost U.S. Coast Guard Careers. The Chapman School of Seamanship recently became a member of the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG¼) Lateral Entry Program thanks to a Yamaha curriculum offered through the school. Students who complete the nine-week Yamaha Marine Maintenance Certification Program offered by Chapman can enter the USCG¼ at a pay grade of E-4 versus E-1 without the requirement of additional training, giving them a two-year head start in building a career with the USCG¼.

6. South China Sea Standoff: Philippines Swaps Coast Guard Ship at Sabina Shoal. The Philippines said it was sending a vessel to Sabina Shoal to replace a coast guard ship that returned to port on Sunday after a five-month deployment at the contested feature in the South China Sea, in a swap that would likely irk China. Beijing had demanded the Philippines withdraw the 97-metre (318-foot) coast guard vessel Teresa Magbanua it claimed was “illegally stranded” at the atoll, which it asserts it owns as part of its broader claim to nearly the entire South China Sea.

9. Increasing freight costs, container shortages threaten exports: GTRI. Increasing freight costs, shortage of containers and dependence on major shipping hubs and foreign carriers pose serious challenges to the country’s exports, think tank GTRI said on Sunday.
To address these challenges, the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) recommended that India implement several strategies to boost domestic container production, enhance the role of local shipping companies, promote use of domestic containers, and strengthen local shipping firms.

10. Vizhinjam Port receives biggest vessel to berth in South Asia. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vizhinjam International Seaport received MSC Claude Girardet, the biggest vessel to berth at an Indian port, on Friday. It is also the largest ship ever to arrive in South Asia. The vessel, which came from Malaysia, has a container capacity of 24,116 TEUs (twenty-four equivalent units). It is 399m long, 61.5m wide and has a depth of 16.7m below the waterline. It is sailing under the flag of Liberia.
