1. Great Eastern Shipping gets rid of 19-year-old suezmax. Indian owner Great Eastern Shipping has made a deal to sell its 2005-built suezmax crude tanker Jag Lalit to an unaffiliated third party.
The deal for the 158,344 dwt vessel was made on Friday and the delivery is expected to occur by the third quarter of the fiscal year 2025.

2. Trumpā€™s plan to hike tariffs would spike shipping costs, just like in 2018, experts say. U.S. presidential contender Donald Trumpā€™s plan to hike tariffs on imports if he is elected back to the White House in November would send cargo rates soaring and accelerate inflation, just like it did during his 2017-21 term, shipping and retail experts said.
Trump, who is running against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 election, has floated second-term plans for blanket tariffs of 10% to 20% on virtually all imports as well as tariffs of 60% or more on goods from China, in a bid to boost U.S. manufacturing.

6. Decarbonisation needs collaborative ā€˜kick-startā€™ says APM Terminals Chief Executive Officer Keith Svendsen. In a panel discussion called by the World Economic Forum in Gothenburg, Sweden on Monday, APM Terminals Chief Executive Officer, Keith Svendsen, addressed the need to ā€˜kick-startā€™ the eco-system in ports to enable the greater use of renewable energy sources. 7. Saipem semisub to stay with Aker BP for one more year. Italian energy services contractor Saipem has been awarded an extension for one of its rigs by oil and gas operator Aker BP.
Aker BP gave an extension to the Scarabeo 8 semisub which is currently under contract with the company until the end of 2025.
Initially, the rig won a three-year, $325m deal with Aker BP for work offshore Norway back in March 2022, the contract also includes the option of two one-year extensions.

9. Japanā€™s Largest Aircraft Carrier Sails to California for Flight Trials. Japanā€™s military is making moves that will put it in the big leagues of naval aviation. Later this year, the Izumo-class carrier Kaga will head to the waters off California for F-35B Lightning II tests, a crucial step in Japanā€™s plan to fully integrate these advanced fighters into its fleet. The trials, set for October through November, mark a milestone for the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) as it increases spending and transforms two former helicopter destroyers ā€”Kaga and its sister ship Izumoā€”into F-35B-capable carriers.

10. Greek Navy Extends Naval Drills to Deter Russian Oil. Ā Greeceā€™s navy has (once again) extended a series of naval drills by two months as the country tries to deter Russian oil transfers on its coastline.Ā 
The maneuvers, which had been due to end in the coming days, will now continue until November ā€” more than six months after they first started ā€” according to a notice on the Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Serviceā€™s website.
