2. Venezuelan Mining Corporation (CVM) imposes restrictions on Venezuelan mineral exports. Venezuelan Mining Corporation (CVM) announced the immediate suspension of the commercialisation and exportation of a wide range of minerals, including gold, silver, coltan, bauxite, thorium, cassiterite, copper and rhodium, which are typically exported from Puerto Ordaz and the Boca Grande II transfer station. This nationwide measure will remain in effect until further notice.

3. Korean Shipbuilders account for 2% of August orders while Chinese shipbuilders 90%. The Korean shipbuilding industry’s order share fell to just 2 percent in August due to selective orders, according to a new report.
According to Clarkson Research, a UK-based shipbuilding and shipping market analyst on Sept. 5, global ship orders totaled 3.87 million CGT (106 ships) in August, up 27 percent from the same month of 2023.

4. First charging station for electric trucks in the Port of Hamburg. E.ON has opened four charging stations on the grounds of the Hamburg Port Authority, directly on the A7 motorway. This is E.ON’s first dedicated charging site in Germany specifically for electric trucks. Each charging bay is equipped with its own 400-kilowatt station, allowing trucks to recharge during the 45-minute break required by law. Depending on the model, this provides enough energy for around 300 kilometres of driving.

5. Port of Lowestoft welcomes first vessel to Lowestoft Eastern energy facility as construction continues at pace. The Port of Lowestoft, the UK’s most easterly port, which is owned and operated by Associated British Ports , has achieved a significant milestone as it welcomed the first commercial vessel to the Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility on Tuesday 3 September. This signals another major step forward in the ongoing construction of the £35 million facility, designed to support the growing offshore energy industry in the Southern North Sea (SNS).

6. 27,500 teu: Chinese debut record-breaking boxship design at SMM. Among the more headline-grabbing announcements coming out of SMM this week in Hamburg, the Chinese have debuted a design at the world’s largest shipping exhibition for a record-breaking giant containership.
China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s (CSSC) Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute has received approval in principle for a 27,500 teu LNG dual-fuel containership, more than 3,000 teu larger in capacity than the existing biggest boxships afloat.

7. Denmark bans 27 Russian-linked ships from calling at its ports. Danish authorities have banned 27 Russian-linked ships from calling at local ports or anchorages.
Guidelines issued to Danish pilots, seen by Danish media outlets Danwatch and Information, also state that it is forbidden to provide services to the Russian ships, including bunkering and the sale of supplies.

8. Lidl’s shipping line adds rail component. Tailwind Shipping Lines, the containerline created by German supermarket chain Lidl, has added a rail component to its business.
The new rail service operates between the Slovenian port of Koper and the freight terminal in the Austrian city of Graz. The new Panther Shuttle will offer freight forwarders and shipping companies five direct weekly connections in each direction.

9. Steel ministry backs industry’s demand to raise tariffs. India’s steel minister will try to convince the finance ministry to raise tariffs on steel imports, he said on Wednesday, to protect domestic mills from a rise in cheaper imports from countries such as China.
India, the world’s second biggest crude steel producer, turned net steel importer in the fiscal year through March, and the trend continued during the first four months of the fiscal year that began in April.

10. Bunker Spill Shuts Several Beaches in Spain’s Gran Canaria. An oil spill off the Spanish island of Gran Canaria forced local authorities to close several beaches in the popular holiday destination on Thursday and declare an environmental emergency.
Emergency services said on social messaging platform X that they were alerted on Wednesday night of the accidental spill during a vessel’s refueling stop at La Luz port of Las Palmas, the island’s capital. It involved a maximum of 3 metric tons of IFO 180, which is designated as a Very Low Sulphur Oil.
