1. Lloyd’s Register acquires Ocean Technologies Group. British class society Lloyd’s Register is acquiring Ocean Technologies Group (OTG), a provider of human capital management and operational software, from European private equity firm Oakley Capital. No price has been revealed for the acquisition.

2. Cosco  strikes mammoth order for 42 bulkers. COSCO Shipping’s ordering spree has continued with a massive newbuilding programme in the dry bulk segment.
The Chinese state-owned shipping giant has commissioned 42 bulker newbuilds across its affiliated COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry and CSSC Chengxi Shipyard in two separate deals worth more than $2bn in aggregate ($1.8bn excluding tax).

3. Russian ships seen obscuring names and IMO numbers while transiting the Bosporus. Russian-linked ships are getting crews to crudely obscure vessel identities, contravening laws established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). 
Yörük Işık, who describes himself on social media as an obsessive ship spotter along the Bosporus, has tracked “dozens” of vessels where original names – and even IMO numbers – have been painted over.

4. Salvors assess how best to handle the burning Sounion tanker off Yemen. The on-fire Sounion suezmax is expected to be towed from its location off Yemen today. 
Two tugs, Hercules and Gladiator, have been to carry out the delicate operation. 
The tanker was hit by multiple projectiles from the Houthis 12 days ago, with the crew evacuating and the Houthis then boarding the Sounion and detonating a series of explosives.

5. Merchant Vessel Hit By Two Unknown Projectiles Near Yemen’s Saleef, UKMTO Says. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in an advisory note on Monday that a merchant vessel was hit by two unknown projectiles 70 nautical miles northwest of Yemen’s Saleef.

6. Russian ‘Spy Whale’ Hvaldimir Found Dead Near Norway. A beluga whale that was suspected of spying for Russia after being discovered in Norwegian waters five years ago has been found dead, according to the non-profit organization that had been monitoring the whale.

9. Technological developments key to reducing maritime sector emissions, finds new DNV report. Reaching shipping’s 2030 decarbonization goal of 20% emission reductions, set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), will not happen without significant energy savings, according to DNV’s latest Maritime Forecast to 2050. The report stresses that, until carbon-neutral fuels become viable, prioritizing the development and use of technologies that reduce energy consumption is crucial for lowering shipping’s emissions.

10. Singapore’s LSFO arbitrage arrivals from West look to be marginally higher in Sep. Singapore’s low sulfur fuel oil inflows from the West are expected to be marginally higher in September despite the West-East arbitrage being technically viable in recent weeks, but delays could lead to some shipments spilling over into October arrivals, trade sources said.
