1. Malta replaces Greece as Europe’s hotspot for ship-to-ship transfers of Russian oil. Malta has emerged as the top European destination for ship-to-ship (STS) transfers of Russian oil in the wake of the Greek navy’s decision to deter such activities in the Laconian Gulf. Since May 1, citing military exercises, the Greek navy has put out of bounds an area in international waters southeast of the Peloponnese islands, six nautical miles off the coast of Laconia, a patch of water that has seen Russian-linked tankers dot the horizon over the past couple of years.

2. IMO seeks to address risk to shipping of insider threats. The International Maritime Organization has launched a new toolkit designed to help shipping respond better to ever-evolving insider threats. Insider threat refers to the risk that arises from a maritime employee carrying out or enabling a security incident, either through a lack of awareness, complacency or maliciousness.

3. Panama Canal inches back to normality. The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has upped the maximum authorised draft allowed for vessels transiting the larger neopanamax locks by 30 cm to 14.94 m as it gets back to normal operations following more than a year of drought-linked difficulties.

5. SHI signs exclusive supply deal with Equinor for floating wind project. South Korean company Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed an exclusive supplier agreement with Norwegian energy giant Equinor for the construction of floating substructures for wind power facilities.
Under the agreement, SHI will also be integrating towers and power turbines to the floating substructures.

6. Expeditors Second-Quarter Profit Falls as Red Sea Tensions Weigh. Logistics provider Expeditors International of Washington reported a lower second-quarter profit on Tuesday, after weak demand and political tensions in the Red Sea weighed on its ocean routing unit. Shares of the company were down about 5% in early trade.

8. Salvage of Grounded Ultra Galaxy Hampered by ‘Cape of Storms’ Weather. Salvage operations on the Panama-registered cargo vessel MV Ultra Galaxy are set to resume this week following a period of stormy winter weather that hit South Africa’s west coast over the weekend.

9. Viking Supply Ships to Outsource Management of AHTS Fleet. Sweden-based offshore shipowner Viking Supply Ships AB has announced plans to outsource the management of its six anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) tugs to the Sea1 Offshore.In a statement, the Viking highlighted that this initiative is expected to result in substantial cost savings starting from the first quarter of 2025, benefiting all shareholders.

10. Government Confirms Progress on Five Bridges across Brahmaputra River under National Waterway-2. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, under the leadership of Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, has provided detailed information in the Rajya Sabha today regarding the ongoing construction of bridges over the Brahmaputra River, which is part of National Waterway-2. Presently, five bridges are under construction across the Brahmaputra River, which extends 891 kilometers from Dhubri to Sadia and was officially declared as National Waterway-2 in September 1988.
