1. Three seafarers held by the Houthis for the past 261 days hit by malaria. The Philippines’ Department of Migrant Workers is busy working to free crew held in the Middle East with news that some of the seafarers held there have been suffering from malaria. 
Iran has seized a number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz in the past year with many crew held for months.

2. University of Miami professor seeks funding for new form of wind propulsion. A researcher from the University of Miami College of Engineering is seeking funding to build a prototype of a new form of wind propulsion for ships. GeCheng Zha, a professor of aerospace engineering and director of the Aerodynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics Lab, has developed nonrotating cylinders, developed with co-flow jet technology similar to what he employed for his ongoing research on new types of aircraft.

3. Oceaneering wins Aker BP contract. Oilfield services provider Oceaneering has secured an inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) support services contract with Norwegian operator Aker BP. The Houston-based outfit’s Norwegian subsidiary will be in charge of the contract set to last up to seven years, if all options are called.

4. Golar LNG and BP agree new terms for FLNG Gimi. Floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) specialist Golar LNG and UK energy major BP, as operator of the Greater Tortue-Ahmeyim LNG project, have executed agreements to implement a commercial reset for FLNG Gimi.

5. Kent wins global commissioning services deal with Shell. Energy giant Shell has awarded energy services group Kent a global three-year enterprise framework agreement. The contract is for the provision of commissioning and start-up services across various onshore and offshore projects as well as a wide range of energy sectors, including oil, gas, and new energy initiatives.

6. State of the Art: Fine Boat Wraps Intertwines Fine Art With Vinyl Wraps For Yachts, Tenders, Sails. Fine artist Ramona Patterson introduces her new company, Fine Boat Wraps  (FBW), to the yachting, sailing and center console markets. While 3M vinyl wraps are used extensively in the marine  industry, FBW immerses vessel wraps with fine, curated art usually admired only in galleries.

7. Filipino Seafarers from Seized MSC Aries Return Home. The three remaining Filipino seafarers from the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries, which was seized by Iranian authorities in April while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, have safely returned to the Philippines, according to an announcement by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) this past weekend.

8. Panama Canal Authority Increases Capacity as Water Levels Return. The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has increased the number of daily transits and maximum draft of the expanded neopanamax locks, bringing the waterway one step closer to to normal operations following last year’s historic drought.

9. Shipping Corporation sale on the verge of collapse as bidders said to lose interest. The initial fascination among potential bidders to buy state-run Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI) is said to have vanished after “sweeteners” were removed from the deal, indicating that the government’s plan to privatise the national carrier has almost collapsed, multiple sources said.

10. New shipbuilding scheme in the works; will incentivise Indian shipyards till 2035. Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is working on a new shipbuilding scheme, which would incentivise Indian shipyards till 2035 by various measures, a senior government official has said.
