1. Iran releases cargo of oil tanker St Nikolas, shipping source says. The oil cargo of the M/T St. Nikolas tanker, which was seized by Iran in the Gulf of Oman earlier this year, has been released, a shipping source told Reuters.
The Marshall-islands flagged, Greek-owned vessel, which was laden with 1 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil, is still being held by Iran, the source added.

2. Chart of the Week: Russian Grain Shipments to TOP Destinations. This week’s chart highlights the notable increase in the monthly volume of Russian grain shipments during the first two quarters of this year. By the end of the second quarter, shipments had risen by 15% compared to the previous quarter. Notably, Egypt emerged as the leading destination for Russian grain, accounting for 20% of the total shipments this year.

5. TotalEnergies acquires a stake in the OranjeWind offshore wind farm in view of supplying green hydrogen to its European refineries and lowering their emissions in Netherlands. TotalEnergies  signed agreements with German renewable developer RWE, to acquire a 50% stake in OranjeWind, a 795 MW offshore wind farm under development in the Netherlands. TotalEnergies will dedicate its share of the renewable electricity production from this project to power 350 MW electrolyzer projects. These will produce about 40,000 tons per year of green hydrogen for the decarbonization of TotalEnergies’ refineries in Northern Europe.

6. Turkey to implement its own emissions trading scheme for shipping. Shipowners looking to Europe’s eastern edge to skirt around new environmental regulations will have to look elsewhere. Turkish politicians are pressing ahead with their own emissions trading scheme (ETS) for shipping which will align largely with the European Union’s own recently introduced ETS. The policy now awaits ratification from the country’s president.

7. COSCO and Fortescue to work on ammonia-fuelled shipments. China’s COSCO has signed a preliminary agreement with Australian miner Fortescue to jointly build a green fuel supply chain.The memorandum of understanding includes exploring construction and deployment of green ammonia-fuelled vessels owned either by COSCO or jointly owned by both companies to transport iron ore and other minerals to reduce carbon emissions in the China-Australia iron ore green shipping corridor.

9. Chinese Container Ships Take Arctic Shortcut Avoiding Red Sea. Two Chinese container ships have set course for the Arctic. The vessels intend to use Russia’s Northern Sea Route as a shortcut to connect ports in China with destinations in Europe. 
The Arctic route allows operators to avoid the troublesome waters of the Red Sea without detouring via the Cape of Good Hope.
