4. Maersk debuts the FFF The company that brought world shipping the EEE containership has now debuted the FFF. Maersk is replacing its existing bunker fuel surcharges – bunker adjustment factor (BAF) and low sulphur surcharge (LSS) – with a new combined fossil fuel fee (FFF) effective from July 1.

Egypt and Brazil look to enter the ship recycling sector New final destinations for ships are opening up with both Egypt and Brazil looking to get into the ship recycling sector.  Egypt’s transport ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with El Wehda Industrial Company to develop a shipbreaking yard at Damietta Port as part of the government’s bid to be less reliant on imported scrap metal.

S.Korea’s Yoon Says Vast Amount Of Oil, Gas Reserve Possible Off East Coast South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on Monday the possibility of a vast amount of oil and gas reserve in the sea off the country’s east coast has been reported and it will launch an exploration to determine the potential.
The possibility of the reserves containing as much as 14 billion barrels of oil and gas are “very high,” Yoon told a news conference citing a study that he said has been reviewed by experts and industry groups.

9. Visakhapatnam Port Authority handles record cargo in May 2024

We aim to continue setting new benchmarks in the maritime industry, says Chairman Madhaiyaan Angamuthu Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) registered 85,81,927 metric tonnes of cargo from 221 vessels in May 2024. The new volume surpassed the previous record of 76,22,732 metric tonnes from 201 vessels in March this year.

10. Panama prepares to evacuate first island in face of rising sea levels 
About 300 families have been forced to leave Gardi Sugdub, a small island off north Panama: “We’re going to leave behind the homes we’ve known all our lives.” On a tiny island off Panama’s Caribbean coast, about 300 families are packing their belongings in preparation for a dramatic change. Generations of Gunas who have grown up on Gardi Sugdub in a life dedicated to the sea and tourism will trade that next week for the mainland’s solid ground.
