1. DNV launches real time emissions data verification solution for trusted collaboration across maritime value chain. DNV has launched Emissions Connect, an emissions data verification engine and data management platform, designed to help the maritime industry accurately assess and work with emissions data. 2. We don’t have time to reinvent the wheel – why we should use existing LCA tools in the maritime industry. A global lifecycle analysis methodology for calculating emissions from alternative fuels will be essential for the maritime industry in the coming decades. However, a methodology alone is not enough. 3. MOL Group’s 2nd LNG-fueled ferry, Sunflower Murasaki, enters service. MOL announced that the second of Japan’s first two LNG-fueled ferries, the Sunflower Murasaki, owned by MOL and operated by its group company Ferry Sunflower Co., Ltd., entered service on April 14. 4. First Vessel secured for Infinity Platform: Supramax Bulk Carrier committed to fractional ownership. A joint venture between Infinity Maritime and 5 Ocean Shipping Management, has taken delivery of M/V “Oak” in the first deal on the Infinity Maritime platform. The commitment is to digitise equity in the ship with a view to trading MetaUnits on Infinity’s secondary trading market. 5. Growing consensus worst is over for container shipping. There is a growing consensus that container shipping has bottomed out with many indicators on the way back up after nine months of decline.Splash reported eight days ago on how multiple analysts including from banks HSBC and Jefferies had called the bottom of the market. 6. Progress made in US west coast dockworker discussions. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union announced yesterday that it reached a tentative agreement with employers at the Pacific Maritime Association on certain key issues to continue working at US west coast ports including Los Angeles and Long Beach. Australia’s Defence Minister Richard Marles said on Saturday that the wreck of a Japanese merchant ship, sunk in World War Two with 864 Australian soldiers on board, had been found in the South China Sea, ending a tragic chapter of the country’s history.Marles said the SS Montevideo Maru, an unmarked prisoner of war transport vessel missing since being sunk off the Philippines’ coast in July 1942, had been discovered northwest of Luzon island. 9. The Planet Keeps Breaking Records For Warming Waters. Earth broke grim new records for melting glaciers, rising sea levels and ocean heat last year, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization. The WMO’s annual State of the Global Climate report, which tracks climate indicators and impacts, cited a record high for ocean heat content in 2022. Some 58% of the ocean surface experienced at least one marine heat wave last year, the WMO said. 10.
